Algebra: Adding and Subtracting
Highlight the groups of the same things (called ‘like terms’)
For example: 3m + 6 +2m+ 7 = ?
Answer: 3m + 2m + 6 + 7 = 5m + 13
It is important to include the + or – with the number that follows it in each term.
For example, 3m – 6 – 5m + 7 = ?
Answer: 3m – 5m – 6 + 7 = -2m + 1

Wisdom from Dr Suess
Today you are you! That is truer than true!
There is no one alive who is you-er than you! You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. The more tha you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.
Use your knuckles to help you remember.
The letter ‘Q’ is always followed by ‘U’ and it makes the sound ‘kw’
For example: ‘quick’, ‘quiet’ and ‘queen’
Area: measured in squared units (e.g. m^2)
Volume: measured in cubed units (e.g. m^3)
Can you see the connection?
2D: units to the power of 2
3D: units to the power of 3

Teacher’s Tip
We drop the silent e from words when we add an ending beginning with a vowel. We keep it when we add an ending beginning with a consonant.
(excite-exciting and excitable but keep the e to become excitement)
There are some exceptions. Here are a few: words ending with -ee, -oe, -ye, -ge, -ce
